My name is Matthew Hennig, and I am the founder of Flying Wheelies—an initiative created to empower people with mobility issues to travel, work, and live more independently. I have Cerebral Palsy and use a wheelchair full-time, so I understand firsthand how important good support, planning and communication are for everyday life and travel.

Qualifications:
To back up my lived experience, I have completed formal training in tourism, events and
community services. My qualifications include:
• Certificate III in Tourism Operations
• Diploma of Event Management
• Diploma of Tourism Operations
• Certificate III in Community Services
• Certificate III in E-Business
• Qantas College Certificate
These qualifications help me combine professional knowledge with real-world experience to support individuals, families, carers and organisations wanting to improve accessibility
When I was 9 years old, I began travelling regularly between the Central Coast and
Melbourne, and quickly discovered how confusing and inconsistent disability support at
airports could be. While the services technically existed, they were often hidden, only
offered if you knew exactly what to ask for, and equipment was not always treated with the
care it deserved. During trips to England and America, I saw the same problems—mobility equipment
mishandled, accessible toilets and onboard wheelchairs only provided on request—so I
decided to create Flying Wheelies to help change the experience of travel and daily life for
people with disabilities.
Flying Wheelies exists to make life easier for people with mobility issues by providing
practical, lived-experience-based support and information. Current and developing
services include:
• Travel consultancy to help plan accessible holidays, flights and accommodation,
including checking accessibility before you book
• NDIS and disability information, connecting people with resources, providers and
supports across Australia
• Guest speaking and education for organisations, schools and community groups
about disability, accessibility and the realities of living with a disability
