Trams in Melbourne’s city circle are free to use, which is helpful for both locals and visitors. There are designated accessible stops that allow wheelchair users to board and disembark safely, although it is important to check which stops are accessible, as these are mainly the common stops in the city .
Inside the tram, there is a wheelchair space near the entry on either the left or right side. Carers can travel for free with a Companion Card when travelling outside the free tram zone, and passengers holding an interstate pension card may be eligible for free fares in some situations.
13WATS taxis operate under contract with the ACT Government to provide reliable wheelchair-accessible taxi services for people with mobility issues. There is a $25 lifter fee for passengers who require the electric lifter to board with a wheelchair or other mobility equipment, reflecting the additional time and equipment used.
